Woodworking Disney Princess

Woodworking and Disney Princess’s

A great woodworker is like a Disney Princess

In January my wife and I bought our first house! It’s a beautiful house built in the 1800’s. Now my wife says we bought the house for the 1 and 1/3 acre, updated bathrooms or the open kitchen. However, secretly, I bought it for the basement. As some may know old houses were not known for having high ceilings especially the basement and I am 6’5″. I was nervous to go down the stairs as my one criteria for a house we bought was having a place I could set up a shop. Our house was the exception to the low ceiling basement trap. I am happy to report that I can stand upright and put my hands over my head. Once we closed I could not wait to set up my shop and let the woodchips fly.

Well, it has been four months and the dream of my own shop is a reality. Thanks to my dad, whos a retired contractor, always saying he will use that again or fix it when he bought a new tool I finally have tools in my woodshop to call my own.

You are probably thinking what is he talking about? You wanted to know why a woodworker is like a Disney Princess. Well here is the similarity…

Just like every good Disney princess I have an animal sidekick!

Meet Thor Toadinson.

A few days after moving into our new home I was in the basement doing the laundry. I had quite a scare when the lump on the ground which I mistook for our cats vomit (she tends to eat too fast) started hopping around. This is how Thor and I first met. Now it is a game to see where we will find Thor. Sometimes he is hopping out of a cupboard I left open. Sometimes he is taking a bath in the cat’s water bowl. Other times Thor is trying to steal my tools to work on his toad hovel. Needless to say, Thor provides some entertainment in the shop.

So yes Disney Princesses and I have animal sidekicks in common, we also all have fabulous hair but that’s another story for another day.
